More course information

The aim of the course is for students to develop an understanding of the holistic nature of art and design through disciplines associated to Fine Art such as, drawing, painting, mixed-media, sculpture, and photography. The specification requires students to develop a practical and theoretical knowledge and understanding of relevant materials, processes, ideas, genres and styles. Skills will be developed through observation, research, recording and analysis.

Students will build upon and extend their skills with a range of media and techniques to produce a portfolio of work. Ideas will be generated
and explored through enquiry that involves experimenting with a wide range of materials and techniques in an independent way. In addition
to the portfolio of work, students will develop and realise ideas for an externally set assignment.

Students wishing to study art and design at higher education usually progress to a one year art and design foundation diploma. Following this, students can then apply for degree level courses in a wide range of art, craft and design specialisms.
