Economics is for students interested in current affairs and those who are keen to examine the everyday problems experienced by households, firms and governments. Why do certain Premier League footballers earn more in a week than our Prime Minister earns in a year. Why is there concern over the price of oil. How much should people be paid for the work they do. Economics is a subject that involves much discussion in lessons of current issues in the news. Theories are constructed to help our understanding of markets and economies. The subject is divided into two parts: Micro-economics: this is the study of individual markets and the behaviour of consumers and producers. Macro-economics: this is the study of the economy as a whole including inflation, unemployment, economic growth and internal trade.
