A/S Course:This course is aimed at students who want to progress from G.C.S.E to A/S level in the four skill areas of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. The syllabus is based on topic areas which concern young people today, such as Youth Culture and Concerns, Lifestyle, Health and Fitness, the Environment, Education and Employment. Students will be expected to understand and be able to discuss the above issues throughout the course. There will be two examinations at A/S level: the Speaking examination (8-10min) and the Unit 2 examination (2hr30) which will consist of Listening, Reading and Writing tasks.A2 Course:This course is aimed at students who have achieved at least a pass grade at A/S in their chosen language, and who would like to progress from A/S to A2 level. Students will be expected to consolidate and improve their language skills, continue discussing current affair issues, carry out research independently and manipulate their language at advanced level. There will be two examinations at A2 level: the Speaking examination (11-13min) and the Writing examination (2hr30). The latter will consist of a translation, a research-based essay and a discursive or creative essay. Please note that although the skills of Listening and Reading are not formally assessed at A2, they will nevertheless be used in lesson time.
