A Level history enables students to develop their interest in and enthusiasm for history and an understanding of its intrinsic value and significance. Students acquire an understanding of different identities within society and an appreciation of aspects such as social, cultural,
religious and ethnic diversity. Through the history course opportunities are given for students to explore a variety of learning styles such as
presentations, research, independent project work and essay writing.

Students study two units in Year 12 - Britain Transformed 1918-97 and The USA, c1920-55: Boom, Bust and Recovery. A further two units are studied in Year 13 - The Witch Craze in Britain, Europe and North America, c1580-1750 and coursework designed and researched by
the student.

Jobs directly related to history include: heritage managers, historic buildings conservation officers and in museum education. Typical employers of history graduates include schools, banks, accountancy firms, publishing companies, law firms and retailers. The subject has high regard with a wide range of employers: 87% of history graduates are in employment or further study within six months of their graduation.
