Music, in all its guises, is a formidable asset to the UK. Nearly all the students who study Music or Music Technology at Gillingham School go on to study the subject at degree level. Even for those who do not, students have found it to be an excellent A Level, complementing other subjects and one which allows them to pursue their love and passion for music. It is wrongly assumed that when it comes to jobs, Music graduates are confined to their field of study. A large proportion will work in the creative industry; however they may also work in teaching, publishing, media, marketing, performance management or in the finance, legal and consultancy fields. Music students will develop strong skills in self-management, team work, business and customer awareness, problem solving, communication, numeracy and IT skills. Indeed, all of the skills outlined by the Confederate of British Industry as the seven most employable skills. You will study the following: performance skills, composition and harmony as well as developing your aural and analytical skills through the study of set pieces. A willingness to contribute towards extra-curricular music is expected. Having access to music, learning an instrument and continuing that to an advanced level, brings an enormous array of benefits. Music is a discipline which will bring great pleasure, successful careers, good earning potential and well developed learners.
