In the first year, you will learn a variety of subjects including: facials, manicure, pedicure, make up, eyelash and eyebrow treatments, waxing and reception work. You will also learn the importance of health & safety, working as a team and retailing. In year two you will study electrical treatments to the face and body, Swedish body massage, electrical epilation, massage using pre-blended oils, figure diagnosis and self tanning treatments. there are four types of assessment, demonstration of practical competence on members of the public, short assignments and projects, oral questioning and written end of unit tests. A portfolio of work is built up during the course. As a fully qualified beauty therapist you could be employed in a salon, health spa (in the UK or abroad), cruise liner, hospital, leisure centre or clinic, for a cosmetic company, to start your own business or work as a mobile therapist. You could work as an educator/trainer for a skin care company, an in-flight beauty therapist on long haul flights or in airports or within photographic studios/model agencies and the field of beauty journalism.
