The Pearson BTEC National Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science is an Applied General qualification for post-16 learners who want to continue their education through applied learning and who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment in the sport sector.
Students will complete eight units over the duration of the qualification. six of these units are mandatory and must be passed to complete
the course. The units students will study are Sport and Exercise Physiology, Functional Anatomy, Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology, Field
and Laboratory-based testing, Applied Research Methods in Sport and Exercise, Coaching for Sports Performance, Biomechanics in Sport and
Exercise Science and, Sociocultural Issues in Sport and Exercise.
This qualification carries UCAS points and is recognised by higher education providers as contributing to meeting admission requirements for many courses if taken alongside other qualifications as part of a two-year programme of study. This qualification will also look to develop employability skills that are essential for progression into the sport sector as a career. The three categories covered will be cognitive and problem-solving
skills, intrapersonal skills and interpersonal skills.
