AS is assessed by 2 written papers, both worth 50% of the AS grade. Students will be assessed on course content and relevant practical skills in both papers; the papers will include short answer comprehension, multiple choice and extended response questions.
A level is assessed by 3 written papers. Papers 1 & 2 are worth 35% of the A2 grade each Paper 3 is worth 30% of the A2 grade
Students will be assessed on content and practical skills. All papers will include short answer comprehension, multiple choice and extended response questions.
This is based on marks in the written exam; however practical skills will be assessed by teachers through direct observation of a range of skills and are divided into those that can be assessed in written exams and those that can only be directly assessed while students are carrying out experiments. A separate endorsement of practical skills will be assessed by teachers and will be based on direct observations of students competency in a range of skills.
