The Economics course is designed to provide a broad based knowledge and understanding of Economic issues. It should enable students to develop and acquire a range of transferable skills including:
ƒ?› presenting arguments and making judgements on the basis of available evidence to reach justified recommendations;
ƒ?› solving problems and making decisions using appropriate business tools and methods;
ƒ?› interpreting data, enabling effective analysis and evaluation to reach conclusions. The syllabus should provide students with a critical understanding of the following:
ƒ?› basic microeconomic models and how they operate in relation to current economic problems and issues;
ƒ?› developments in the UK economics and government policies over the past ten years;
ƒ?› how businesses make decisions and how this behaviour can be affected by the structure and characteristics of the industry;
ƒ?› the impact and effectiveness of current government policies to deal with the macroeconomic problems facing the UK.
