The course requires you to study both spoken and written texts, to analyse ways of constructing meanings through language. There is an imaginative and engaging choice of texts and topics which will generate enthusiasm, including texts such as Fitzgeraldƒ??s ƒ??The Great Gatsbyƒ??, Williamsƒ?? ƒ??A Streetcar Named Desireƒ?? and Shakespeareƒ??s ƒ??Othelloƒ??. You will be inspired by learning about spoken and written language from real and imagined worlds as you engage with the craft of writing to analyse texts in both Year 12 and Year 13. You will also complete a coursework portfolio of your own creative and non-fiction writing in Year 13. The A Level course will be assessed through two examinations (2 hours and 30 mins each) worth 40% of the marks each, plus a coursework portfolio worth 20% of the marks.
