The A-level Business Studies course introduces you to all you need to know about working in business. You will not just study it, you will live it. You will enter the Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce Dragons' Apprentice Competition where you will put together a business idea to raise money for a local charity, with the support of an external business mentor. This has a focus on helping you to become a good decision-maker and you will learn essential managerial skills, alongside techniques to help you become an analytical problem-solver. These skills are all highly sought after and valued in a wide range of careers. The course is split into 10 topics. In Year 12 you will learn about different business structures, their objectives and fundamental concepts like costs and revenues. You will study management, leadership and decision-making before moving on to look at the four functional areas of business, marketing, finance, operations and human resources.

Towards the end of Year 12, you will start the second part of the course. This combines all the previous content with four topics analysing a business' strategic position, direction and pursuit of those strategies. This all ends with a topic which will be vital throughout your lives: how to manage change.

There will be three exam papers at the end of Year 13. Each of the papers will examine content from all the topics because it is all interlinked. Paper 1 is a mix of 15 multiple choice questions, short answer questions and 2 essay-type questions. Paper 2 is a data response paper and Paper 3 is a Case Study with 6 questions to answer.
