A level Economics prepares students for degrees in Economics and Business Studies and can lead to employment in a range of highly paid jobs and careers. These include Stockbroker, Banking, Accountancy, Investments, Consultancy, Manufacturing, Retailing as well as many jobs in the public sector.
This course will appeal to students who want to understand the relevance of economics to real world issues. It incorporates mathematics to study the factors that influence income, wealth and well being; provides excellent grounding in the UK's national and global economy which affects all organisations and employers in the UK; improving problem solving skills, your ability to think logically and to think in terms of the short term and long term consequences of actions.
Unit 1 - Markets and Market Failure. This unit introduces candidates to microeconomics. Basic microeconomic models such as demand and supply, the operation of the price mechanism and causes of market failure are central to this module.
Unit 2 the National Economy. this unit introduces candidates to macreconomics. Candidates will be required to acquire knowledge and understanding of Aggregate Demand/Aggregate Supply analysis and should be provided with opportunities to use this analysis to explore recent and current economic behaviour.
Unit 3 - Business Economics and Income Distribution. This unit is synoptic. Candidates should be able to recognise both the value and limitations of economic models as a means of explaining and evaluating the conduct and performance of firms in the real world.
Unit 4 - National and International Economy. Unit 4 is synoptic. Candidates are expected to develop further their critical approach to economic models and methods of enquiry. They should be able to analyse and evaluate economic models in written, numerical and graphical forms. They should be able to analyse and evaluate the causes of changes in macroeconomics indicators in greater depth.
