A level in Further Maths is essential for any student wishing to study maths at university. The majority of science and engineering courses also have a substantial mathematical content and Further Maths will provide an excellent foundation for these subjects. Further Maths is a challenging A level which commands the respect of employers in many different fields.
This course will appeal to those students who enjoy maths and are interested in studying a mathematical subject beyond A level; have a natural flair for the subject with strong algebra skills.
Further Pure - Year 1: matrices; sequences and series; complex numbers; proof
Decision - Year 1: algorithms; linear programming; network analysis
Further Pure 2 - Year 2: hyperbolic functions; differential equations; polar co-ordinates; further complex numbers; further matrices
Mechanics 2 - Year 2: work, energy and power; potential energy circular motion; momentum
Further Pure 3 - Year 2: groups; more complex numbers; differential equations; further trigonometry; more complex numbers
Statistics 2 - Year 2: continuous random variables; hypothesis training; the normal distribution; sampling
