This course will appeal to those students who: have an interest in fitness, health and athletic performance; enjoy learning how the body changes and adapts with training; wants to learn the psychological aspects of sport performance; enjoy analysing, participating and observing physical performance, shows an interest in the social, cultural and ethical areas of global sport; shows a willingness to develop other roles within sport; can practically perform within 1 role of coach or performer.
Paper 1- Factors affecting participation in physical activity and sport. This paper focuses on anatomy and physiology (different body systems, diet, nutrition, training methods and bio mechanics), skill acquisition (skill and ability, learning and performance, guidance and feedback and information processing) and sport in the society (technology in sport,the history of sport).
Paper 2 - Factors affecting optimal performance in physical activity and sport. This paper focuses on exercise physiology and biomechanics (biomechanical movement and injury), sport psychology (confidence, motivation, arousal and anxiety, confidence and leadership) and sport in the society (developing elite performers, sport, media and sponsorship, governing bodies and external agencies).
Non-exam assessment - students assessed as a performer or coach in the full sided version of one activity. As well as this thee is a written/verbal analysis of performance.
