The course studied is that of the AQA examination board which covers an English depth study and an American breadth study. There are three main components to the course:

ƒ?› Component One: The making of a Superpower: USA 1865-1975
ƒ?› Component Two: Religious conflict and the Church in England c1529-c1570.
ƒ?› Component Three: A piece of independently researched coursework based around the theme of the Atlantic Slave Trade.

How is the course assessed?

A Level Examination (in Y13)

Component One: Written Paper 2 hours 30 minutes (40% of A level) covering the period from 1865 to 1975
Component Two: Written Paper 2 hours 30 minutes (40% of A level) covering the period from c1529 to c1570.
Component Three: A Personal Study: 3,000-3,500 words (20% of A level)
