The curriculum contains six subject groups together with a core made up of three separate parts. Students study six subjects selected from the subject groups. Normally three subjects are studied at higher level and the remaining three subjects are studied at standard level. Students choose at least one subject from each group (Environmental Systems and Societies can count as a group 3 or group 4 subject). Additionally there is a degree of flexibility as to any additional subjects (from groups 3 and 4) that can be added to Group 6 to ensure each student has the opportunity to design the exact combination of subjects that they desire. We can discuss meeting your subject needs at interview. All three parts of the coreƒ??extended essay, theory of knowledge and creativity, action, service are central to the philosophy of the Diploma Programme and to pass the IB Diploma students must succeed in their subjects as well as the core. What are the three core requirements? 1. Extended essay: The extended essay is a research topic and has a prescribed limit of 4,000 words. It offers the opportunity to investigate a topic of individual interest, and acquaints students with the independent research and writing skills expected at university. 2. Theory of knowledge (TOK): The TOK course is designed to provide understanding by exploring the nature of knowledge across disciplines, encouraging an appreciation of other cultural perspectives. 3. Creativity, action, service (CAS): Participation in the Academyƒ??s CAS programme encourages students to be involved in artistic pursuits, sports and community service work, thus fostering studentsƒ?? awareness and appreciation of life outside the academic arena.
