This applied general qualification offers an exciting and interesting experience that focuses on applied learning by providing knowledge of the criminal justice system. It provides you with an introduction to criminal justice and criminological theories and how crime and punishment affects society. The main purpose of this course is mainly to use the qualification to support access to higher education. Alternatively it develops understanding and skills to be able to consider employment in some aspects of the criminal justice system such as the National Probation Service.
Units of Study:
Changing Awareness of Crime - this unit will enable you to demonstrate understanding of different types of crime, the influences on perceptions crime and why crimes are unreported.
Criminological Theories - this will allow you to gain knowledge of why people actually commit crime.
Crime Scene to Courtroom - this unit will provide an understanding of the criminal justice system from the moment the crime has been identified to the verdict. You will develop the understanding and skills needed to examine information in order to review the justice of verdicts in criminal cases.
Crime and Punishment - this unit will develop understanding of the awareness of criminally, criminological theories and the process of bringing an accused to court in order to evaluate the effectiveness of social control to deliver criminal justice policy.
