This course is challenging yet enjoyable and combines the academic and practical aspects of manipulating materials in creative and innovative products. Students learn to appreciate the complex relations between design materials manufacture and marketing. The AS course is designed to provide knowledge of materials components and their application within a variety of industries as well as learning through designing and making and is the practical coursework part of year one. Students will work on their own design with a range of materials and media. At A2 Level students will explore design and manufacture. This develops students' holistic appreciation of the relationship between design and technology or form and function. It is the academic part of year two. The A2 coursework requires students to set themselves a 'design and make' challenge that will require them to be innovative and creative. Students will create a textile project and record the processes undertaken.
