The Level 3 Diploma in Food Science and Nutrition is a highly practical course with a strong emphasis on cooking healthy and nutritious food. Students will learn a range of skills such as bread, pastry and sauce making. Students will present a range of food products to meet chosen groups of the population, for example, vegetarians, teenagers, the overweight and obese. Practical sessions are run in our modern training restaurant.
There are three units which have to be completed. Ensuring Food is Safe to Eat is assessed by an 8 hour timed task, whilst Meeting Nutritional Needs of Specific Groups and Experimenting to Solve Food Production Problems are assessed by practical tasks, coursework and a written exam. Students will spend around half of the course carrying out practical tasks to support their coursework, and trips are planned in at relevant points to help support their learning.
The course can lead directly to employment within the food industry or onto a wide range of degree courses such as BSc Food and Nutrition, BSc Human Nutrition, BSc (Hons) Food Science and Technology.
